Open Question: Which car to buy (japanese makes)?

I am a first time buyer and am definitely looking into buying a japanese car (most likely a SUV). I have been checking Isuzu, Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, Nissan. Just for those who have own one or more of these kind of jap cars, what are your experiences in terms of fuel-efficiency, reliability, value for money and the like.
